Last night I was invited over to a friend's house with my wife. I thought we were going to have a simple dinner but there was a huge spread. It was as though we were at a restaurant. Actually, my friend used to own a restaurant and it was at this restaurant that I met my wife for the first time. This first picture shows one of my favorite dishes from his restaurant called Ton-teki which means pork steak. You may not notice it but there are cloves of garlic sauteed with the pork and I just LOVE garlic! This next picture may look like curry but it is actually a demi glace beef stew. Demi glace made from scratch, oh so wonderful and oh so delicious!. I know, I know, demi glace sauce is always made from scratch. Look at the steam! YUMMY! There were a few other menu items that he quickly whipped up for all of us. This was a milder version of the popular Korean dish called Toppoki that stir fries mochi sticks with fish cakes and vegetables in a sweet chili paste sauce. This other dish was an original version of the poke. It had chunks of salmon and ahi, with slices of green and round onions in a mayonnaise sauce. The one item that he did not cook up was the dessert and I think it was the piece de resistance. No offense to my friend for cooking all of the food. This is the Chocolate Haupia Pie from Ted's Bakery. Though in my opinion, the haupia sweet potato pie from Yama's is a very close second, I think this pie is one of the best. This is something that everyone should try! If you happen to be out near the North Shore, Ted's Bakery is out there. If not, you can pretty much find these pies at a Foodland store near you! Konnani tabetara undoumo taisetsu desu!
